On the outskirts of Hønefoss, Arne Gunnar Treangen stands in the middle of a production site filled with wood, machines and a steady stream of pre-cut logs. For many, it’s a winter project – for Treangen it’s a passion and part of everyday life. With around 2,000 cubic meters of wood a year, he knows what works.
– I have been working with wood for many years. This is the third Duun machine I have used, says Treangen.
He currently uses the largest model, the VM450, and has been active in providing input into the further development of Duun’s firewood processors.

Norwegian, simple and operationally reliable
– The most important thing for me is that this is a Norwegian firewood processor, made by Norwegian people, and there is always someone to talk to if something happens. It’s rare, but you get help quickly. I just call Birger and it’s fixed. It’s worth a lot, he says.
Treangen emphasizes that he has tried many types of firewood processors, but Duun is the simplest and most reliable he has worked with.
– That’s a bit of nonsense. The machines are built logically, and they’re easy to use – especially when you’re producing a lot, he says.
Experience and efficiency
Treangen buys wood from the forest and has it delivered in large loads – approximately 50 during the season.
– I don’t buy birch as long as there are leaves on the trees. I usually start in November, when the moose hunt is over, and try to finish by April. That’s when the dryness is best. All production takes place indoors, and the machines he uses are powered by electricity.
– Everything runs on electricity: packaging machine, cleaning drum, log splitter. I have moved away from tractors and PTO shafts – the electric motor is quiet and stable. Last year, processing 20 cubic meters of wood cost me 40 kroner in electricity, he says.

Machines made for use
Treangen often gets calls from others who are considering a machine, and he is happy to let people come and try it before they decide. What he likes best about the Duun machines is that they are practical and well thought out in
use.
– There are photocells that stop the feed belt when the log enters, and a log holder that presses the log down during cutting. The knife is easy to change and produces nice, clean logs – not lots of chips. And if something breaks down, it is easy to reach. The machine is built for operation, quite simply.
Treangen replaces machines regularly – but not because the old one is worn out.
– I switch because something new and better is coming. I like to keep up with technology, and it pays to upgrade before the old one wears out. It always runs smoothly.

Treangen’s advice for those who are considering a firewood processor
What is the advice for others considering a firewood processor?
– Talk to someone who has the machine. Try it if you get the chance. I wouldn’t have any doubts about my choice again. Duun delivers a great product and provides exceptional service.
